The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has announced an early disbursement of the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant for December 2024, increasing the amount to R370. This initiative aims to provide timely financial support to unemployed citizens during the festive season.

December 2024 SRD Grant Payment Schedule

To accommodate the festive season, SASSA has adjusted the SRD grant payment dates for December 2024. Beneficiaries can expect payments between December 18 and December 20, 2024. This adjustment ensures that recipients have access to funds ahead of the holidays.

Payment Methods

Beneficiaries have two primary options to receive their SRD grant payments:

  1. Direct Bank Deposits: Funds are deposited directly into the beneficiary’s bank account, offering a secure and convenient method.
  2. SASSA Pay Points: For those without bank accounts, payments can be collected at designated SASSA pay points. Beneficiaries are advised to adhere to the scheduled dates and follow health and safety protocols.

Checking Payment Status

SASSA provides multiple channels for beneficiaries to check their payment status:

  • USSD Codes: Dial 1203210# or 12069277# from a mobile phone to access grant information.
  • WhatsApp: Send a message to 082 046 8553 to receive updates on payment status.

If the status indicates “pending,” it means the evaluation process for eligibility is ongoing, or the beneficiary may not qualify for the grant during that period.

Future Payment Adjustments

Post-December 2024, SASSA plans to revert to the standard payment schedule, typically from the 2nd to the 4th of each month. This regularization aims to enhance planning and accessibility for all beneficiaries.

Why is the SRD grant amount R370 instead of R350?

The SRD grant amount has been increased to R370 to provide additional support to beneficiaries.

What should I do if my payment status shows “pending”?

A “pending” status indicates that your application is still under review. Ensure all your information is correct and monitor your status regularly.

Can I change my payment method after applying?

Yes, you can update your payment method by visiting the SASSA SRD website and following the instructions to change your banking details.
